What Claude is and who makes it
Claude is built by Anthropic, an AI safety company, and is offered through the Claude web and mobile apps plus a developer API. It comes in tiered models, commonly Haiku, Sonnet, and Opus, that trade off speed and cost against depth of reasoning. Anthropic trains Claude with an approach called Constitutional AI aimed at making responses helpful, honest, and harmless.

Claude is widely used for careful reasoning, writing and editing, coding, and working across very large documents thanks to a long context window.
