Google Gemini
Overview
What Google Gemini is
Google Gemini is Google's family of multimodal AI models, meaning a single model can work across text, images, audio, video, and code. It comes in tiers, such as lightweight Flash models for speed and cost and larger Pro models for harder tasks, plus compact versions designed to run on devices. Gemini replaced Google's earlier Bard assistant.
Where Gemini shows up
Gemini powers the Gemini app, assistant features across Google Workspace apps like Gmail and Docs, and the AI Overviews that appear at the top of Google Search. For developers, Gemini is available through Google AI Studio and Vertex AI on Google Cloud, so it can be built into custom applications and workflows.
Using Gemini in projects
Because Gemini generates AI Overviews, it matters for visibility as well as building. Our team works with it on both sides: GEO & AEO to help brands get cited in AI answers, and AI Agents, AI Chatbots, AI Voice Agents, and Customer Service AI that use Gemini's multimodal strengths for tasks involving images, documents, or voice.

Yes, Google offers a free tier of the Gemini app with usage limits, plus paid plans with access to more capable models. The developer API is billed by usage through Google Cloud, with rates that vary by model.
What was Google Gemini called before?
Gemini was previously called Bard. Google rebranded its consumer AI assistant to Gemini in 2024 to align it with the underlying Gemini model family.
Gemini vs ChatGPT, which is better?
It depends on the task. Gemini is deeply integrated with Google Search and Workspace and is strongly multimodal, while ChatGPT has a large ecosystem and plugin support. Many teams evaluate both on their specific use case before deciding.
