Meta Pixel
Overview
What the Meta Pixel is
The Meta Pixel (formerly the Facebook Pixel) is a small piece of tracking code placed on your website. When a visitor arrives from or later interacts with a Facebook or Instagram ad, the pixel records what they do, such as viewing a page, adding to cart, submitting a form, or buying, and sends those events back to Meta's advertising system.
What it enables
That event data powers three things: conversion measurement, which proves which ads drove sales or leads; retargeting, which shows ads to people who visited but didn't convert; and audience building, which creates lookalike audiences from your best customers. It also feeds Meta's algorithm so campaigns can optimize toward the actions that matter, not just clicks.
How a full-service agency applies it
Browser privacy changes, iOS tracking prompts, and ad blockers now block many pixel events, so we pair the Meta Pixel with the server-side Conversions API for more complete data. In sales funnel and attribution work, we define the key events, implement them accurately across the funnel, and reconcile pixel signals with other analytics so ad spend is judged on real, deduplicated conversions.

FAQ
Meta Pixel — common questions
Is the Meta Pixel still used?
Yes. The Meta Pixel is still the browser-side tracking method for Facebook and Instagram ads, but Meta now recommends pairing it with the server-side Conversions API because browsers and privacy settings block a growing share of pixel-only events.
Is the Meta Pixel free?
Yes. The Meta Pixel itself is free to create and install from Meta Events Manager. You only pay for the ad campaigns it measures and optimizes.
Meta Pixel vs Conversions API?
The pixel tracks events from the visitor's browser; the Conversions API sends events from your server. They cover the same actions, but the API is more resistant to ad blockers and privacy restrictions. Using both, with deduplication, gives the most reliable measurement.
